Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf has asked for a review of the future structure of Jersey Telecom to be carried out by the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (JCRA).

And it is possible the inquiry could recommend the Island’s government retaining ownership of the network infrastructure.

The Senator said he has asked for the review to ensure that the long-term interests of the Island are properly considered.

He said it was ‘fairly common’ in small jurisdictions for the network ownership to be in different hands from the mobile and fixed-line businesses.

‘It is a structural review I have asked for and that JCRA has agreed to carry out.

I want it to look at how the market will be as far ahead as 2030 and fully consider the economic impacts of whatever decisions are made now,’ he said.
