The National Trust for Jersey’s petition, which will be presented to the Chief Minister later this month, asks the States to buy the old Pontin’s holiday camp site and return it to its natural state.
Coastline Campaign chairman Mike Stentiford said that the trust was overjoyed with the massive response to the campaign so far.
The 2,746 signatures, a figure growing by the hour, demonstrated what an important issue protecting Plémont was for the people of Jersey.
‘If we can get to 3,000 today we shall be very happy.
We’re very, very pleased with the response so far, but we’ve still got a long way to go,’ said Mr Stentiford.
‘No one can be accused of nimbyism when it comes to Plémont because it is not in anyone’s back yard – it’s an Islandwide feeling.’
