Robert Allo (45) appeared in Bristol Crown Court yesterday to admit a charge of rape and 15 counts of sexual assault.

He was extradited to the UK in May after being arrested in Bordeaux in April.

The 15 sexual assaults were allegedly committed on two children under 16 between 1991 and 1994 when he was living in Bedminster, Bristol.

Allo was arrested in Bordeaux after a joint operation between Avon and Somerset’s Cold Case team and Interpol.

He was originally arrested in 1997 after a formal complaint was made against him.

Allo made several court appearances and was released on conditional bail, but failed to appear at Bristol Crown Court on 8 August 1997.

Officers searched Bristol and Jersey in an effort to find Allo, but they failed, and he remained at large until this year.
