Former Grainville student Lauren Thérin (20) is better known as a track and field athlete.

She won bronze medals in javelin and discus for Jersey at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Australia two years ago.

But the university student’s speed and power has now gained her a place in Britain’s bobsleigh squad that will travel to Switzerland for the World Championships in February.

She trialled for the skeleton bob team last year.

When she failed to make the squad she thought her dream of reaching the 2010 Winter Olympics was over.

However, she was contacted recently and invited to a training camp in Austria and was subsequently selected to be part of the British team.
