The Iron Mountain Live-Vault service provides server back-up online, rather than on manual tapes.
Data is automatically and continuously backed up to a secure, remote facility where it is always available for immediate online recovery.
Itex marketing director Chris Eaton said: ‘Basically it is a set-it and forget-it solution which removes the variable of human error and means that if there is a disaster – such as last week’s power cut – businesses can recover data from up to six minutes before the event.
With tape you can only recover data up to the previous evening because the tapes are run overnight.
Iron Mountain has been providing data vaulting services for 30 years and has over 125,000 customers worldwide, but this is the first time that their product has been available in the islands.
Paul Marrett, joint managing director of Itex, explained: ‘Many small and medium-sized businesses still use manual tape back-ups.
This is both time-consuming and potentially damaging.
Analysts have demonstrated that nearly 50% of tape-based back-ups fail to restore correctly.
