Two goals in the final 12 minutes at Springfield earned Ian Horswell and Tony Hoyland’s side a 2-0 win but more importantly they have dropped just one point this season while title challengers and champions St Peter have lost six, and Scottish and Trinity both five.
Alex Jeffries turned well to put Grouville ahead before Liam Walshe fired home a late penalty after Scottish defender handled the ball on a goal-line.
Horswell said: ‘It was an excellent result, it’s the first time we’ve defeated Scottish ever in a league match and everyone at the club is delighted.
‘It’s only October and we’re top.
We have a five-week break now before our next league match and anything can happen.
Things can change very quickly in football and we will not get carried away.
‘It was an outstanding team performance and the players can be proud.
I was disappointed we were not leading at half time as Russell Le Feuvre and Jason Bingham both hit the woodwork.
‘Scottish played their usual tough physical game with good football but they rarely tested goalkeeper Casey Hickling who took some excellent crosses under pressure.’ Scottish defender Scott Devlin said: ‘We had no recognised forwards last night and that was our downfall.
I couldn’t see Grouville scoring but they managed to get one and we had to push forward after that.
‘It’s a setback but I still expect us to finish in the top three.
It will be down to who can put a good run together from here on in.’ Jersey Scottish: Gareth Bayley; Chris McNabb, Steve Langan, Scott Devlin, Gordon Brodie; Lee Burns, Dave Brodie, Ryan Lumsden, Paul Duxbury; James Scott, Luke Watson (Calum Brennan, 84).
