Rue de la Sergenté in St Brelade will be shut for two months from Monday week to allow mains water to be installed at a new estate, and Transport Minister Guy de Faye has apologised for not giving businesses and residents more notice.
He plans to introduce a shuttle bus to transport people around the roadworks after complaints from parish Deputy Sean Power and the general manager of the Atlantic Hotel and Ocean Restaurant, Jason Adams.
Mr Adams says residents will have to go around the houses to take their children to school, and the hotel will lose customers as a result of the closure.
He said: ‘I was sent a letter giving me one week’s notice that the road will be closed.
Visitors will have to go from the Airport down past Les Ormes, along the Five Mile Road and up La Pulente Hill.
I obviously find that completely unacceptable.
We are doing Tennerfest and it will be a six-mile round trip for lunch.
There will also be a six-mile trek to get to school.
I am quite incensed.’
