So says communications specialist Frances Edmonds, who was in the Island last week as guest speaker at the Chartered Institute of Marketing Jersey awards dinner.
Mrs Edmonds, who came to fame after writing about her experiences on tour as wife of England cricketer Phil Edmonds, began her career as a linguist and worked as a translator and interpreter for international organisations including the European Union and the OECD.
‘It is certainly not true that everyone speaks English,’ she said.
‘If I want to sell you something I speak your language, but if you want to sell me something you speak my language.
That’s the business case.
