Three government agencies are now warning employers that they are breaking the law if they force staff or job applicants to disclose convictions which are ‘spent’ under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Law.

The Probation Service, the Data Protection Commissioner and the Jersey Advisory and Conciliation Service (JACS) say former offenders may turn back to crime because they are not being given a chance to put their past – even the most minor offences – behind them.
