Since Emeraude pulled out of Jersey, Condor has been the main freight link between Jersey and France.
Mr Crafter (45), of St Saviour, has bought a fishing boat which has been converted into a freight carrier and has a licence to bring up to 50 tonnes of goods to the Island in one load.
His company, Harbour Facilities, is opening a route to Granville in Normandy, and Mr Crafter is looking into the possibility of creating a link between Saint-Brieuc in Brittany and Jersey.
He says that if there is demand, goods will also be shipped from the UK.
