Wendy Harris, a regular visitor to the Island, was out walking with two dogs on Ouaisné Common on Friday at around 8 am when she caught sight of it.
Not knowing that there were no foxes in Jersey, she casually mentioned the fox to her friend Carol Weaver, who she is staying with.
It was only then that she realised the significance of the sighting.
‘I have foxes coming into my garden at home in Leamington Spa all the time at home and so I do know what they look like,’ she said.
‘It could not possibly have been another dog, because there are no dogs with tails like that.’
