The public meeting was a chance to put questions to both Airtel, the telecommunications company which has applied to put the mast in field 687 on Grouville Hill, and planning officers.

Representatives from Airtel faced a barrage of questions about the health implications of the microwave radiation from the mast.

Most of the audience agreed that while there was no evidence that the microwaves emitted by such masts were definitely harmful to people’s health, there was equally no conclusive proof that they were not harmful.

On that basis, they urged caution over convenience for the mobile companies and said the masts should be placed well away from homes, and especially children and the elderly.
