TGWU official Nick Corbel is planning a mass meeting of his 1,500 public sector members after the States Employment Board refused to raise the 2.4% pay offer that union members rejected in a secret ballot last month.
He says that their options now are to go to arbitration or take action, which could range from a work-to-rule to a go-slow or a strike.
‘Our membership cannot be balloted again on the same offer,’ said Mr Corbel.
‘In terms of our future strategy, I would not like to comment.
Suffice it to say that a senior union official described the mood of the manual workers as a powder keg – it would take one spark to set them off.
I cannot rule out industrial action.’
