The Choose to Re-Use campaign will persuade everyone in the Channel Islands to cut down on single-use carrier bags and instead choose rucksacks, baskets or Bags for Life, offered at many supermarkets.
With the full support of the Co-op, Checkers, Marks and Spencer, Safeway and the Wine Warehouse, the two-week initiative will culminate in a No Carrier Bag Day on Thursday 23 November, when the stores will remove all single-use carrier bags from their tills.
Posters will be displayed to remind shoppers to bring in their own bags, in an effort to encourage the habit of re-using resources rather than wasting.
