Following the States’ decision to spend £200,000 commissioning a report into whether part of St Aubin’s bay should be filled in for car parking, Senator Shenton said that land reclamation was too drastic a solution to the area’s problems.
He said that not only would the project would cost millions of pounds, but many St Aubin residents were against it.
‘It’s going to be very expensive and they haven’t tried anything else out – when we look at the track record of land reclamation in Jersey it is not great.
‘They have destroyed St Helier and I don’t want them to destroy St Aubin,’ he said.
Senator Shenton, who grew up in St Aubin, has organised a parish meeting for 23 November so that residents can air their views.
