Although ministers from Jersey suggested a joint meeting at the start of the year, the suggestion was ignored by their Guernsey counterparts.
But Chief Minister Frank Walker told the Corporate Services Scrutiny panel yesterday that a meeting would now take place in Guernsey on 24 November.
He said the frost between the islands had thawed, and that he was looking forward to talking to ministers in Guernsey about ways they could save money by working closely together.
Senator Walker told the panel yesterday: ‘There has been an improvement in the co-operation with various ministers, which I welcome, and on 24 November there is the first-ever meeting of the Council of Ministers and the Policy Council of Guernsey.
‘We are going over to Guernsey on the 24th.
It will be interesting to see how that meeting develops and whether it does lead to greater co-operation and resource sharing in any areas.
‘Generally, I think everyone is aware that the level of competition between Jersey and Guernsey and in turn the Isle of Man has increased over the last couple of years and the tax package and our respective fiscal strategies lie very much at the heart of that.’
