Football scores over woodland

Contrary to some criticism received, head teacher Anne Taylor says the project will not be destroying any environmental areas of particular importance.

‘There have been a lot of misconceptions about this site, that it was an ancient woodland area, but it is not,’ she said.

‘I want to reassure people that we are not destroying any environmental areas of particular importance.’ Mrs Taylor said the plans for the development had been in hand for a number of years.

‘I’ve been at La Moye for six years.

When I first started here plans for developing this area were already in place,’ she said.

‘Everyone has had the chance to have their say.

Men Of The Trees have looked carefully at the site.

They are clearing the area in the centre and keeping all of the old trees around the outside, so there will still partly be a nature trail.’ The States Treasury and Resources Department’s capital projects manager, Anthony Norman, is overseeing the project.

He said: ‘Planning permission for the new seven-a-side playing field currently under construction was granted some time ago to coincide with the redevelopment of the school.

However, a number of land and environmental issues have taken quite a while to conclude and it is only now that the works can commence.’
