It was also considered that five years behind bars was an appropriate sentence for Clark Taljaard (31) and did not warrant a reduction.
Taljaard was found guilty by an Assize jury in June of raping a 19-year-old girl on her doorstep last year.
He approached her after a night out with friends and forced himself on her as she searched for her house keys.
The following day Taljaard made plans to flee the Island, telling friends that his father had had a massive heart attack in South Africa.
Taljaard’s defence counsel, Advocate Claire Davies, claimed in court on Tuesday that the way in which the trial had been conducted showed elements of prejudice towards him.
