Kenneth Steventon (82) joined the IoD in 1955 when he owned a pottery business in Stoke on Trent and has been a member ever since.

He moved to Jersey in 1968 and sat on the board of several companies – he was non-executive deputy chairman of Lazard Brothers for 19 years and a director of Invesco International for 30.

He is now retired but is still chairman of ASL Financial and Commercial Services and ASL Personnel Selection.

Mr Steventon was presented with a certificate and a letter of congratulations from the director general of the IoD at a lunch at the Pomme d’Or Hotel this week.

He said: ‘It’s a great honour to receive the fellowship – I was totally surprised but very grateful.

It’s been a privilege to be part of the Institute for so long and I think it does a very good job and performs a very useful function.
