Ross Andrew Duncan (20) headbutted one man and punched the other after friendly jibes turned serious.
A brawl ensued in Liberation Square involving a group of Duncan’s friends who later chased the men back to the Marina, where they had moored their boat.
On Friday in the Royal Court, Crown Advocate Andrew Belhomme told how one of the men was so badly hurt that he was admitted to hospital on his return to Paris for reconstructive surgery on his eye socket.
However, it was accepted that Duncan had been involved only as the fight broke out, and was not entirely responsible for the injuries.
