Opera House: The showdown begins

Four days have been set aside for the hearing which is being chaired by Tribunal chairman Advocate David Le Quesne.

Mr Stephens resigned in June but was subsequently sacked for gross misconduct by the Board of the Jersey Opera House Ltd.

They claimed that he allowed an employee to stay on the payroll despite the fact that he had taken a full-time job in the finance industry.

The row between the two sides, particularly between Mr Stephens and Board chairman Christopher Lakeman, became increasingly acrimonious during the summer.

At one stage the board took out a full page advertisement in the JEP to outline its reasons for taking the action it had, amid a backlash from the theatre-going public.

The Opera House are represented by Advocate Nuno Santos Costa, whose wife is deputy chairman of the tribunal but who will have no part to play in these proceedings.

Mr Stephens is representing himself.
