In the States, Senator Walker dismissed suggestions that an increase in the number of J category, essential employees who could buy had pushed up the cost of property.
J category employees, such as teachers and nurses, are allowed to buy and live in so-called J category properties.
Such properties must be freehold, have been occupied by a locally qualified person for at least two years and be valued at in excess of £250,000.
He said that of the 400 homes bought in the third quarter of this year, 30 were bought by J category employees.
Senator Walker was responding to a question put by Senator Ben Shenton, who asked whether the Chief Minister thought that there was a link between changes in housing regulations affecting ‘J cats’ and increased house prices.
