The De La Salle student is a member of the PricewaterhouseCoopers school of excellence and will now join fellow members Gyles Robin and Chris Young for the county.

Crenan, who has been working hard with coach Steve Whiteside, was recommended for selection by Hampshire Vice President Trevor Gray.

This follows an impressive season including winning the Maine Cup in May and setting a junior course record to win the Captain’s Prize in July.

He was also named JEP ITEX golfer of the month in July and won his three debut matches for the junior island team.

Nick Steel, Junior team manager said: ‘Sam has undoubtedly earned the right to be included in the Hampshire squad – his recent performance has been outstanding and has certainly deserved recognition.

‘It is an excellent achievement and is a credit to the superb training Sam has been able to benefit from as part of the school of excellence.

‘It is important now that Sam continues his form next year and keeps reducing his handicap and gain Hampshire colours.’
