The lecture came on the same day that the US government warned of a possible internet attack on the stock market and banking websites from a radical Muslim group.
An audience of about 90 heard the security presentation given by officers from the National Counter Terrorism Office at the Pomme d’Or Hotel.
The office is a unit responsible to the Association of Chief Police Officers and plays a co-ordinating role for police forces with regard to terrorism and protective security.
Unit head Det chief insp Chris Phillips and Det sgt Richard Flynn gave the presentation to businesses about the role it plays within the national security framework.
Det sgt Flynn said they were not in the Island because there was information that there was any immediate threat to Jersey.
However, they stressed the importance of having strong IT security to counter the threat of cyber terrorism.
