New rules to make nannies affordable

From now on, two families will be able to share a nanny, and in future parents who do could get tax relief on their employment.

The Jersey Child Care Trust is in discussions with Treasury Minister Terry Le Sueur about giving tax relief to parents who employ accredited nannies, and a ruling has been given by Solicitor General Stephanie Nicolle clarifying the wording of Daycare (Jersey) Law 2002 when it comes to caring for a child in their ‘own home’.

The new ruling means that a nanny can now care for children from two different families as long as the care is divided between the two homes.

This opens up the possibility for families who may previously have discounted the option of a nanny to share the costs of a nanny’s services.
