The campaign, in which the Jersey Crimestoppers Board ran advertisements in the Jersey Evening Post, which also depicted an innocent child about to pick up a hypodermic needle, also resulted in £32,000 in drugs being seized.
Following that success, the board and Channel Television have also launched a promotional film showing in full motion the harrowing decline in the addict’s facial appearance over just seven years.
Police chief Graham Power said they welcomed the use of this hard-hitting advertising campaign and they hoped it would provoke more calls to the Crimestoppers line.
‘These genuine pictures are extremely effective and chart what a serious effect drug use can have on a person’s appearance,’ he said.
The Channel Television film was made by their creative director, Stig Adeler, and shows how a once attractive woman rapidly ages.
The film, funded by Jersey and Guernsey Crimestoppers Boards, will run regularly on Channel Television and three versions will feature captions in English, Portuguese and Polish.
