Massimo Florio, a professor at the University of Milan, recommends that a cost-benefit analysis of the strategic impact on the economy be carried out before any decision is made to sell off Jersey Telecom.
Mr Florio was in Jersey yesterday to give a lecture at the Pomme d’Or Hotel on lessons that have been learnt from past privatisations.
He was invited by the Economic Affairs Scrutiny sub-panel chaired by Deputy Geoff Southern that is looking at the proposed sale of Jersey Telecom (JT).
The professor is deemed to have produced the definitive analysis of privatisation in Britain in a book named The Great Divestiture – Evaluating the Welfare Impact of the British Privatisations 1979 to 1997.
