A 5-1 victory away to St Ouen came after the best of starts, with two goals in the opening three minutes.

Ian Horswell and Tony Hoyland’s side, who have been playing catch-up with Jersey Scottish over recent weeks, finally used up their game in hand and took full advantage, chalking up their sixth league victory of the season and extending their winning run in all competitions to eight games.

Horswell said: ‘We had an excellent start last night and it was a great result.

It’s an cliché, I know, but we are taking one game at a time and we will now concentrate on our next opponents – Magpies.

‘Every season our aim is to improve on our previous season’s points total and we are currently on target to do that.

We’ve come through a difficult spell of games unscathed and we are all delighted.

‘Confidence is high and there’s a lot of variety at training.

We struggled a bit on Saturday to beat First Tower but last night we produced a fantastic team performance.’ St Ouen joint-manager Peter Flambard said: ‘Some of my players just didn’t show up in the game.

We were caught cold with those two early goals and it was always going to be an uphill battle after that.

We didn’t make a game of it.

Grouville were strong and well worth their win on the night.’ Grouville forced four corners in the opening minutes and scored from two – Toni Cardoso beating a marker before firing inside a far post and Russell Le Feuvre nodding home the second.

Shortly before the half-time break Liam Walshe finished off a fine run down the right by scoring his tenth goal of the season and his ninth in the last seven games.

Cardoso won and converted a penalty to make it 4-0 before Joe Murphy pulled a goal back with a good finish after Grouville had been caught flat at the back.

Peter Warrell completed the scoring with a tap-in from six yards for Grouville’s fifth.
