Since September he has been in training most mornings from 6.30 to get himself ready for the equivalent of ten kilometres in the waterfront pool.
The triple Island Games gold medallist said: ‘My sisters have six children, so I know how important it is for kids at this time of year.
I thought it would be a good idea to use my fitness to help raise some money and hopefully give some children a happier Christmas Day.
‘Although I have been swimming 4-5km in my swim sessions I have never swum as far as 10km in one go.
I know I will have to swim a bit slower than I would in a triathlon to be able to last the distance, but I am excited about giving it my best shot.’
