‘Appalled’ pupil takes action over bus service

Jersey College for Girls student Verity-Jane Haddon has already got 400 signatures, primarily from her own school and has circulated the petition to other schools in the Island.

‘I used to live out in St Brelade and had a frequent bus service, however, since I moved to St Peter’s Valley the service is appalling,’ said Verity.

‘I can’t go out on a Sunday and have to be home by 5.40 pm on a Friday night.’ As Verity-Jane is not yet driving she relies on the bus service to get around.

But she feels that it is letting her down.

‘The Island has, on its winter timetable, 22 bus services.

Two of these do not run between 28 October and 18 March and two stop running on 30 December,’ said Verity-Jane.

‘Of those remaining 18 bus routes, only three have a Sunday service running throughout the winter period and 12 don’t leave town after 6 pm.

This hardly constitutes a good bus service.

It is neither safe nor does it meet the needs of Islanders.’
