Channel Islanders should declare independence

From James McCulloch.

CITIZENS of the Channel Islands live in the only part of Britain that can force the government to think of withdrawal from the corrupt European Union.

This could be achieved through your parliament making contact with the Commonwealth of Nations with a view to becoming an independent member, which would almost certainly be accepted, and then telling Messrs Brown, Cameron and Clegg that if the Lisbon Treaty is legalised you will declare unilateral independence.

This does not necessarily mean that you will reject the Queen – she can still be your Head of State, should you so wish. There is not much time to think about this as the EU intends to force Ireland into a ‘yes’ vote quite soon.
