OLIVIA Mehigan and her brother Freddie both scored successes in this weekend’s Advisa Financial Cross Country league races with superb 7-8 year age group wins.

Olivia pipped Kitty Brewer and Emma Dempsey to take the girls title, while Freddie made an early break to win the boys, ahead of Jack Leerson and William Brown.

The fifth race in this season’s league was held at Beauport, and participants were required to complete an anti-clockwise loop of Beauport Common. From the north side, runners followed a drop to the car park, before the path veered right towards St Brelade, and back to the start. Nearly 70 youngsters turned out amid glorious sunshine, including Patrick Cullinane, who beat his closest contender for the boys’ 9-10 crown by over 14 seconds.

Just nine seconds separated the next seven runners, with Nathan De La Haye holding off Gus Brewer to take second place. Also in that group was Gemma Gothard, who won the girl’s 9-10 years race seven seconds ahead of Betsan Williams, and a further two in front of Catherine Billington.

Lauren Lowe and Oliver Terry won the 11-12 year old girls’ and boys’ races, and Danielle Leerson held off Chloe Turner to win the girls’ 13-14 year age group, while boys’ 13-14 year old champion Charlie Griggs finished the course despite suffering a viral infection.
