You have a very beautiful Island – but the bus service is poor

From Mike Shaughnessy.

I AM a Londoner visiting Jersey for a few weeks who is impressed with this beautiful Island and the nice people who inhabit it. I do, however, have one criticism. The bus service in Jersey is, I am afraid to say, very poor indeed.

This is not a reflection on the bus drivers, who seem to do a very efficient job, but on the infrequency and early finish of the service. Given the problems and expense of car parking in St Helier and the traffic congestion at peak hours, I am sure that if more buses were put on the road, people would use them.

We all know about the dangers of climate change, and much of Jersey is vulnerable to rising tides, so getting people out of their cars and on to public transport would be a small step in the right direction of reducing CO2 emissions too.
