Fireworks fiasco fizzles on

ROCKETMAN Terry McDonald has called a public meeting for Thursday after spending 18 months guarding the 125,000 fireworks he was left holding after cancelling his World Record attempt in 2007.

Mr McDonald faces a £43,000 bill for the insurance, shipping and disposal of the rockets. ‘We want to analyse what went wrong, thank everyone for their support, try to prevent something similar happening again and find a final resolution,’ said Mr McDonald, a former policeman turned event organiser.

The meeting will be held at the Town Hall at 6 pm on Thursday. Mr McDonald says that late advice from the Environment Department led him to pull the plug on the rocket launch that could have won back Jersey’s record for the biggest simultaneous rocket launch in history.

Since the cancellation, he has been sleeping at a secret location, guarding the leftover rockets.
