THE toilets at a St Helier car park are the place to go – they have received a five-star rating in a national competition.

Their success in the Loo of the Year Awards means that Sand Street car park’s public toilets, along with those at Corbière, Bouley Bay and Côtil du Grouin, hve been judged to be among the best of the UK’s ‘away from home’ toilets.

At a special ceremony in the car park toilets on Tuesday, Transport and Technical Services Minister Mike Jackson congratulated the maintenance teams who keep the toilets in such good condition. ‘I am delighted that the staff have received this recognition. It is well deserved,’ he said. ‘They do the work that other people don’t want to do, which is very much unrecognised and so easily taken for granted. They are very much the unsung heroes.’

The awards, which have been running for 21 years, are promoted by the British Toilet Association and aim to encourage the highest possible standards in ‘away from home’ toilets across Britain.
