From Angela Mitchell.
I WRITE with reference to the Saturday Interview (JEP, 27 January) featuring Senator Jimmy Perchard. Here we go again … and this time it is Senator Perchard having a fit of hysteria.
So Health is in crisis because some of the staff are off sick with flu. If I have flu I have to keep working – who else is going to look after my farm animals? If my husband has flu and has to go to bed, I have to look after 80 head of livestock. Now that is a crisis, and yes it would be stressful!
The world is suffering from a crisis called the credit crunch and it is affecting everybody. Over the past few weeks I have heard of people being made redundant in the UK and companies closing, and even professional people losing their jobs, or having to take a reduction in their salaries. And now it is happening in Jersey.
The health sector should be grateful that they have a job, and if they have had flu they should get back to work as soon as they can, as there will be people knocking on the door of Health asking for jobs.
We have a crisis on our hands but, believe me, it is not only Health who are suffering. And if Senator Perchard wishes to ‘put his career on the line’, nobody will care, as there will be loads of people ready to replace him to enjoy a salary of £42,000 with a job.
Let us hope we don’t get another drama queen. Somebody with sense, stability and as solid as a rock – that’s the sort of person we need in this difficult time to come.
