New TVs hog the limelight

A GROUP of local bikers have helped to bring Robin Ward in the General Hospital right up to date with a gift of five new flat-screen televisions.

The Harley-Davidson Group, also known as The Hogs, bought the 16-inch TVs for the ward with money left over from the group’s fund-raising efforts last year.

The TVs replaced the older, more bulky ones that the ward had been using and Hogs president Michael O’Connor said that it was rewarding to see the smiles on the children’s faces when they handed over the gifts.

‘We do a lot for charity throughout the year, but this example was particularly good because rather than giving money to a faceless organisation, we could actually see the smiles on the faces of the children,’ he said. ‘It is also nice to be able to give money raised in Jersey to people in Jersey.’

Four Hogs presented the new TVs, which were bought at cost price with the help of Euronics, to the ward last Saturday and Mr O’Connor said: ‘The ward had asked for more compact TVs to replace the older bulky ones they were using. The money we used to buy them was left over from our fund-raising events last year but we wanted to follow the theme of this year’s campaign, which is to Help a Jersey Child.’

He said that the children were ‘over the moon’ at the gift and he hoped that the TVs would make a difference to the ward.

Each year the Hogs organise a variety of events to raise money for local charities, including lunches, bike rides and raffles. The best-known is the group’s rally at the Weighbridge, which this year will be held in May.
