CONCERNS expressed recently by Home Affairs about spending on the historical abuse inquiry were not discussed with him, says former lead investigator Lenny Harper.
Mr Harper, the former deputy Police Chief who retired from the force midway through last year, says that the cost of the work was accepted by the Home Affairs Department while he was still in charge of the investigation.
The additional cost of the investigation has been put at £7.5m – but only just over half of that is police spending, mostly on bringing in officers from other forces, overtime and travel.
It emerged this week that Home Affairs were claiming that some of the expenditure under Mr Harper’s leadership of the investigation could not be justified.
