A JERSEY businessman is rallying support for Island credit union Community Savings and Credit.
David Warr, who chairs the Jersey Chamber of Commerce’s small business sub-committee, opened an account last week and deposited £100 of his own money to encourage other businesses, individuals and organisations to consider doing the same.
Community Savings and Credit, which has offices in Seale Street behind the Town Hall, has been running for 12 years now and is open to any Island resident. Individuals or groups of common interest can set up an account and arrange to save modest amounts on a regular basis.
The credit union was set up initially to help those in poverty and can also grant low-interest loans and emergency funding, but because the level of deposits has always been modest, their resources are limited.
