STATES employees should not be worried about ‘overnight job cuts’, the Chief Minister said today following the warning that redundancies might be needed across the public sector.
Senator Le Sueur’s words were meant to reassure workers alarmed by the priorities outlined in a consultation paper on the new Strategic Plan.
The paper recommends that pay as well as manpower and service levels will need to be revewied to make necessary savings in light of the economic downturn.
It explains that the plan must achieve a balance between minimising the impact of the global economic downturn and developing a plan to secure the long-term future of the Island. It says that delivering the necessary savings will require in-depth reviews of all services provided by the public sector ‘to determine whether they are working at optimal efficiency’.
