The Elmina Woman of the Year 2009 was crowned at an awards ceremony at the Radisson Hotel last night.
Susan Van de Ven won the accolade, beating off competition from Collette Labey, Sally Whitworth, Sue Cox and Donna Banim. The five finalists were nominated for their ‘inner and outer beauty’, their contribution to the community and their environmental awareness.
The competition was run in association with Jersey Now magazine with readers’ votes being added to those of the judges, who included former newspaper editor Eve Pollard. She was the guest speaker for the gala event, which also raised money for Jersey Hospice Care.
