Bentleys and buses: Should these .be taxed to extinction as well?

From Ralph Saunders.

WITH reference to 4x4s, firstly, yes I have one, a big ‘un, but I must say that there are far larger vehicles on our roads than your average 4×4.

To mention a few: Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, Jaguars, Iarge goods vans, tractors and trailers, refuse trucks, States vehicles of various sizes, horseboxes, lorries, tipper trucks, buses . . . need I go on?

All are larger than your average 4×4 and guzzle more gas. So do we now tax all these to extinction just to clear the road for journeys to and from work? I’m on the road seven days a week and meet all manner of odd-sized vehicles around the country lanes. So what if it add a few more minutes to my journey?

Oh, and I also have no problems with parking. I use a 4×4 because it is very good for the job. Yes, these are safe vehicles. You have better all-round vision, and a robust chassis all around you, just in case a bus or a lorry or a tractor runs into you.

And I also thank God that we, the people, can decide for ourselves what we want to own and drive and not have some person telling us what we can and can’t have. Thankfully, we still have freedom of choice.
