From Michael Rossiter.
SO does a day off in lieu of Liberation Day mean that all States employees who would generally be required to work on Liberation Day — traffic wardens etc — will be paid double time plus a day off in lieu, effectively three days pay?
This is just another example of how the unions run the Island and why our government will ne-ver be able to make any effective reductions to the ever-increasing ‘cash-guzzling monster’ called the States budget.
Until our politicians have the courage to sit down with the unions and negotiate to bring in some up-to-date manning levels and working practices and, most importantly, management levels/ratios as in the private sector, this will continue to be the biggest threat to the financial stability and future of our Island.
