AN investigation is under way after 70 guests and staff had to be evacuated from the Radisson hotel on the Waterfront after a small fire broke out on the third floor yesterday.
The hotel’s chief engineer, who tried to tackle the blaze with a fire extinguisher, was taken to hospital immediately as he was having problems breathing after inhaling smoke.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the States police. The fire broke out in the back-of-house lift area, where service staff collect linen.
Three fire appliances and units from the police and ambulance service arrived on the scene just after 11.30 am. On arrival they found that that all staff and guests were evacuated safely in the car park. Firefighters quickly put out the fire and the hotel was declared safe for the residents to go back to their rooms.
