ENGLAND’S World Cup winning manager Sir Clive Woodward will present the Lord Jersey Rugby Cup later this month.
The Lord Jersey Cup was created for under-16 school teams only last year by the current Earl of Jersey, William Villiers, himself a player and coach, as a way to enthuse and keep young players involved in the game.
Holders Victoria College will be eager to hold on to the fantastically crafted trophy which they won last year. However, they will face tough competition from De La Salle College, Les Quennevais School, Hautlieu, a combined Haute Vallée/Grainville/Le Rocquier team and a Guernsey Schools Select, which will be a great addition to the tournament.
Mark White, of Jersey Rugby Development said: “We are extremely lucky to have the support of Lord Jersey to make this tournament possible. As well as the experience the boys will get on the day every school will take away a considerable amount of money to be spent on Rugby equipment.
‘This will have a huge impact on the provision of rugby in Jersey schools. Every School will receive £300 work of rugby vouchers for participating, sixth place will receive a further £300, fifth place £400, fourth place £500, third place £750, second £1000 and the winners £1250.’
