CHIEF Minister Terry Le Sueur signed a historic tax information sharing agreement with the UK Treasury yesterday.
The deal will give the UK tax collectors the right to see Island income tax data. Jersey’s willingness to co-operate with the Treasury has led to a pledge from the UK government that they will fight the Island’s corner at the G20 summit of leading economies in London on 2 April. The issue of offshore jurisdictions will be high on the agenda at the meeting, which follows repeated calls from both sides of the Atlantic for tax havens to be shut down.
Senator Le Sueur signed the tax information exchange agreement in London alongside Treasury Minister Stephen Timms MP. The agreement allows UK tax authorities to obtain any information held by Jersey about people or companies on request.
