No guarantee on States jobs

PUBLIC sector workers could be facing redundancy when a five-year deal which guaranteed States jobs runs out in three months’ time.

Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean, pictured, has warned that the ‘headcount will be looked at’ when the agreement, which guaranteed no redundancies within the States, expires in June. He said that ministers had no intention of renewing the deal, which safeguarded public sector jobs if workers accepted certain pay conditions.

And he refused to rule out redundancies and warned that ministers now ‘have tough decisions to make’ when the States headcount is reviewed later this year.
