Black day for bowlers

Jersey’s hopes of making progress in the British Isles men’s pairs and under 25 singles championships were dashed yesterday, when Jamie MacDonald admitted, ‘Putting it quite simply, we were not good enough.’

He was referring specifically to the way he and Thomas Greechan were brushed aside, 25-8, in the pairs by former world indoor pairs champions Ian McClure and Jeremy Henry, who enjoyed home advantage.

Henry also won the world outdoor singles title in 2000, and a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games singles in 2002, and is the only man to have won all four British singles titles – senior and junior, indoors and out.

‘We stayed with them for while, and were only 5-3 adrift after four ends, but, when they settled, they got away from us big-time, and we had no answer,’ added MacDonald (pictured).
