Jersey duo reach British Isles final

CAROLE ALLEN and Gaynor Thomas flew the flag vigorously for Jersey in the British Isles indoor bowls championships in Belfast yesterday, when they qualified for the final of the women’s pairs.

Beating top Irish internationals Muriel Wilkinson and Barbara Cameron, 20-13, the Jersey duo set up a final encounter with the winners of today’s semi final that features England and Wales.

‘It was hard draw, because they are very experienced players, who had home advantage, and the benefit of home support, but we took a 4-0 lead, and stayed in front for virtually the whole game,’ said Thomas.

Although the Irish duo rallied to take the lead briefly at 6-4 after seven ends, a great run from Allen and Welsh-born Thomas saw Jersey collect nine shots without reply to lead, 13-6 after 12 ends, and they never looked back.
