JERSEY and the rest of the Channel Islands were Britain’s most popular holiday destination for online searches last month on an international travel website.
Expedia.co.uk revealed that online searches for the islands had increased by 101 per cent compared to the same time last year. It means that the Channel Islands have been ranked number one in Expedia’s monthly Travel Hotspots Barometer, ahead of Sydney, Dubai and South Africa.
Although this is good news for the Island’s tourism, it does not mean that the industry can breathe easy, according to Jersey Tourism director David de Carteret.
‘It’s very positive indeed but we don’t want people to think it’s all going to be fine now,’ he said. ‘It very much depends on how many of those web hits turn into solid business, which remains to be seen. I think it is one piece of good news in what is a difficult market.’
